Schalke 04, de Alemania, cedió al español José Manuel Jurado al Spartak de Moscú y presentó al holandés Ibrahim Affelay, cedido por el Barcelona, como su nuevo fichaje. "Me alegra que Ibrahim esté con nosotros, tiene virtudes especiales y puede jugar en varias posiciones", dijo el entrenador Huub Stevens.
La marcha de Jurado al Spartak ayudó a financiar la venida de Affelay, explicó el director deportivo del Schalke, Horst Heldt. Jurado llegó al Schalke en el 2010 junto con Raúl González y tuvo altas y bajas en su paso por el club de Gelsenkirchen.
Tras haber tenido un papel importante con los anteriores entrenadores Felix Magath y Ralf Rangnick no terminó de entrar nunca en el sistema de Stevens. En el 2011 Jurado ganó con el Schalke la Copa de Alemania.
